“From weekend warriors to seasoned professionals, these are the experiences of folks who put our splitters to the test where it matters most—in their own backyards.

Mike T.
The Iron & Oak 27-ton splitter handled oak rounds that killed my neighbor’s machine. Split 8 cords last weekend without a single hiccup—this thing’s an absolute workhorse.

Jennifer S.
As someone who heats with wood year-round, I needed equipment that wouldn’t quit on me. Two winters in with my Iron & Oak horizontal splitter and it starts every time, even at -15°F.

Robert K.
Been splitting wood for 30 years and this is hands down the best splitter I’ve owned. The cycle time is lightning fast and the build quality makes my old unit look like a toy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions answered to help make the best decision possible when selecting the right equipment for specific needs and ensuring proper operation for years to come.
Most hardwoods like oak and maple require 20-25 tons of splitting force, while softer woods can be handled with 15-20 tons. For knotty or particularly dense wood, 27-30 tons provides extra power. The wood’s moisture content also affects splitting difficulty – green wood typically splits easier than seasoned logs.
Horizontal splitting works well for smaller logs that can be easily lifted onto the beam. Vertical splitting is ideal for heavy rounds that would be difficult to lift – simply roll them into position and split them on the ground. Many models offer both positions for maximum versatility.
Hydraulic fluid should be changed after the first 50 hours of use, then every 500 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Signs that fluid needs changing include slower operation, unusual noises, or visible contamination when checking the reservoir. Always use the manufacturer-specified fluid type.
Most residential models accommodate logs up to 24 inches in length and 16-20 inches in diameter. Commercial units often handle 26-30 inch lengths. The maximum diameter depends on splitting force – higher tonnage units can handle larger diameter rounds more effectively.
Before winter storage, run the engine until warm and change the oil. Add fuel stabilizer to prevent gumming, run the engine briefly to circulate it, then drain the fuel tank. Clean all debris, check for loose bolts, and store in a dry location. A light coating of oil on exposed metal prevents rust.
Safety glasses protect against flying wood chips and debris. Steel-toed boots prevent foot injuries from falling logs. Work gloves improve grip and protect hands from splinters. Hearing protection is recommended for extended use. Avoid loose clothing that could catch on moving parts or logs.

Built to Work When You Need It
IIron & Oak started because too many log splitters quit right when the job got tough. After watching one too many machines fail on knotted hardwood, the decision was simple—build equipment that works as hard as the people using it. Every splitter combines heavy-duty steel with old-school reliability, because when winter’s coming or storm cleanup can’t wait, the equipment shouldn’t be what gives up first.
The approach stays straightforward because overcomplicated doesn’t split wood any better. Every design gets tested the real way—used until it either breaks or proves it won’t. The team behind these machines understands that tools exist to get work done, period. No marketing fluff or promises that sound too good to be true.
When someone chooses Iron & Oak, they’re getting equipment from people who know that reliability isn’t a feature you can add later—it’s built in from day one. These machines show up ready to work, season after season, because that’s what the job demands and what the people doing it deserve.
